My Donor

I got a letter today from the donor family. It was a bit unexpected. I figured they weren't going to write to me. I thought I was opening some note about my next appointment or extra blood work Dr. Sader wanted me to do. Instead I got one of the best shocks of my life.

And that letter sent me into librarian mode of trying to find the family since they want to talk to me.

I big part of me wants to talk about everything that I found and yet another part of me wants to keep this to myself. Well my mom, my dad, and myself since they were there when I was searching. But I have this feeling that as I write I will want to write more.

Here's what I know I want to say -

His name was Alex. He was 25. He was brilliant and adventurous. And he was so well loved.
And now he is enjoying the best party in Heaven with Jesus and I can't wait to meet him.

When I say that Alex was brilliant I feel like that is an understatement. Alex was easy to find because he was a big deal because of how smart he was. Alex was a Aerospace Engineer. For his Bachelors he double majored in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering and was the valedictorian. And he had his Masters in Aerospace. He worked for NASA and was expected to be a game changer in his industry.

When I say that Alex was adventurous I mean he lived such a full life in a short time. Alex loved pretty much every sport as long as he was outside. Alex had been all over the US and the world climbing even to the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro. And Alex challenged the people around him to live full lives as well often going on adventures with his family.

Above those things Alex was giving. Though his death was tragic and unexpected he gave life to many others as a donor and his family encouraged many others to follow suit.

And from the words I have read today in the letter and online there is no doubt in my mind that he was cherished, valued, and so well loved.

Thank you Chuck, Janet, Andie, and Alex - I am honored to carry and care for a part of Alex.

Some of these are long but I thought I would post a few links about him that I found:
This is the first one I found. I wasn't sure I had the right Alex but it turns out I did - http://theavtimes.com/2013/06/17/nasa-engineer-dies-after-car-wreck/
This is an obituary I found for him that confirmed I had the right person -  http://www.newsobserver.com/2013/06/28/2994708_alexander-lee-stuber.html?rh=1
This has a little bit about a trip he went on with his family. I lost it at the end cause I am mentioned though not by name - http://www.dnaofsports.com/stories/44
